/STORE KEEPING


It is the process of storing raw materials or goods under the supervision of a person called store keeper or store controller.

Store Management: Store Management includes various responsibilities such as receiving the raw material, protecting the raw materials protecting from damage, spoilage and keep the finished goods until the goods are dispatched. Store management also includes distribution of material in right quantity at the right time and at the right place.


Function of Store Management:
1. Receiving, handling and speedy issue of material.
2. Custodian of gods in stores against damage and pilferage (hefting).
3. To ensure regular supply o material.
4. Effective utilization of store space.
5. To provide services to the organization in most economical way.
6. To keep the details of items available in the store update.
7. Proper identification and easy location of items.
8. Physical checking of stock.











TYPE OF STORE

1. Receiving Stores; Perform activities that control the quality & quantity of purchase material before the materials are accepted for production. Such type of stores can be divided in to three types:-

(a) Inward: It is used to store the incoming materials until they are acceted and taken into stock.
(b) Quarantine: It is used to store the stock materials temporally that are under disputes are need certification from the supplier.
(c) Rejection: This is used to store material that are defective and rejected by the company.

2. Main Stores: Main stores perform activities that are concerned with storage & issuance of accepted material. It also deals with the maintenance of record of materials. This is further divided in to four parts:-

(a) CRIB: It used to store stocks such as cutting and hand tools of workers.
(b) Finished Store: This is used to store stock components that are finally produced.
(c) Plant Store: It is used to store spare parts of tolls & machines that are used in a plant for production.
(e) Sub: Sub is used to store the large quantities of raw materials.

3. Ware House: Warehouse performs activities that are concerned with receipt, packing and dispatch of finished goods to various destinations warehouses also involve handling of papers and documents related to goods. These types of stores are also called the finished pr stores.

4. Special Stores: Special Stores perform activities that are related to receipt, storage and issuance of special materials such as bank papers, petroleum products etc. Special stores are further divided into the following types:

(a) Bonded: These stores are used to store materials that are related to banks and stocks that are excisable.
(b) Statutory: It is used to store petroleum products such as kerosene and diesel that require safety precautions.
(c) Temperature controlled: This store is used to store materials such as meat, fish and vegetables or goods such as rubber or active ingredients etc. that require temperature controlled.

5. Scrap yard: Scrap yard performs activity that are related to receipt and storage of various types of scraps.
