Olympic torch stopped

Former Cornell men's lacrosse player Kyle Miller '06 will carry the Olympic torch on one of the final legs of its journey to Beijing for the opening ceremonies of the Summer Olympics on August 8. Miller, who was selected after his older brother Josh wrote an essay to nominate him for the honor, will run a half-mile route with the torch in and around Shanghai on Monday, May 19.Miller was a four-year letter winner for the Big Red and was a member of the 2006 Team Canada squad that won the ILF title. The former Cornell goalie was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in February 2003 and missed two full lacrosse seasons while receiving medical treatment. He returned to Cornell for the 2004-05 academic year, and despite his doctor's prognosis that he would not play collegiate lacrosse again, Miller made a triumphant return to the Big Red and in his final two seasons of eligibility, he saw action in eight games. During his career with Cornell, he posted an 8.51 GAA and stopped 65 percent of the shots he faced."I think it's a pretty good opportunity not just to represent Canada but to represent our sport," said Miller in a recent interview. "We'll bring our sticks over and see if we can spread the word."
